Reading Labels 101: 4 Things to Look For

Let’s face it: Nutrition labels can be really confusing, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking at.

And when it comes to weight loss, knowing what to look for and what to avoid can make a big difference in your transformation goals.

Ready to learn 4 incredibly important things YOU should know and look for when reading a nutritional label?

Let’s get to it!

Watch Out for These 4 Things

Tip 1: Pay EXTRA attention to the serving size.

Sometimes foods, especially snacks and desserts, can be a little deceptive.

How so? Listing out smaller serving sizes, which can sometimes disguise the total amounts of calories, sugar, and more.

When realistically, people might be consuming more than just 1 serving per sitting realistically.

Sneaky, right?

When you’re looking at labels, make sure to pay special attention to the serving size on the label.

Tip 2. Try and avoid extremely long ingredient lists.

If the ingredient list on the package is longer than your weekend to-do list, maybe think twice.

Joking aside, try to opt for foods with shorter lists of ingredients, as well as ingredients you recognize.

Unprocessed, or minimally processed foods, will typically have a smaller ingredient list because there are less preservatives and additional additives. And these types of foods are great for supporting your transformation.

Tip 3: The order of the ingredients matter.

Food labels list out ingredients in order of “most” to “least.” That’s because ingredients are listed by quantity, with the highest amounts listed first.

Try to choose products where healthier ingredients are near the top–think fiber, protein, healthy fats, etc.

Tip 4: Focus on key nutrients

Fiber, protein, and healthy fats. These guys keep you feeling full and energized.

These ingredients can help keep you feeling full and satisfied. Not too mention, fiber is like a superhero for digestion and gut support.

It’s Not About Perfection. It’s About Progress

Remember, it's not about perfection and dramatic changes overnight.

It’s about making little changes, sticking with them, and being consistent. It’s about progress and balance.

You’ve got this!
